Digital Production Projects
Inside Out
This project should hit home for anyone who faces anxiety, as the picture encapsulates the internal dialogue one has when stressed, upset or nervous. There are three faces: two with color, one in black and white. The two are reflections of one another and colorful, emphasizing the intensity of the emotions. One face is screaming at his suffocating reflection to show the different feelings one faces when feeling anxious. Behind the screaming match, you see a black and white face; this is to depict one’s appearance to others when feeling anxious. He may seem faded or just in a weird mood, meanwhile inside he is facing a hurricane of “what ifs.” The face behind adds a feeling of frustration into the work, furthering the different emotions one with anxiety may undergo.
Perfectly Out of Place
My video is supposed to make the audience feel like an observer in a new place. I tried to encapsulate the feeling of leaving your home for a place that is far different; a place one has always heard about but had no particular desire to visit. Throughout this type of trip, one may compare the place to home; they may appreciate the differences, yet feel somewhat surprised by the amount of similarities. The song playing is called “Perfectly Out of Place,” because that is exactly how one should feel--out of place but content with this disposition because, at the same time, they become familiar with this new destination.
New York is my home: I am a born and bred New Yorker and I have yet to leave for an extended period of time. This past weekend I visited Michigan, a place I’ve always read about in textbooks or heard about in the news; I had no clue what the Midwest would be like besides the textbook definition. I felt perfectly out of place because my background was very different from the people I met and spent the weekend with, but I loved every second of it. I got to see the explicit differences, but, at the same time, it felt no different from home. Students were studying, people were going to work, friends were partying, and caffeine addicts were still piling into the local coffee shops. In the end, they are both just places in which people live or visit, and this is what I hope my video can convey.
